If you’re like me, then you’re protective of your jailbreak. As tempting as it is to upgrade to the latest and greatest version of iOS, jailbreakers everywhere know damn well that upgrading will break your jailbreak. That’s why when I owned an ATV2 with an untethered jailbreak on iOS v5.2, I decided to hold off on upgrading until the next untethered jailbreak was released.
iOS 5.2.1 and an tethered jailbreak came and went. Then came 5.3 on June 19th, 2013 and that’s when I noticed my non-jailbreaking friends were watching HBOGo on their ATV3s and having all of the fun. I wanted in, but I was sure as hell not going to give up Plex, which I’d been enjoying on 5.2.
On December 22nd, 2013 @evad3rs released evasi0n7 much to GeoHot’s (@tomcr00se)’s chagrin, by the way. On January 4th, 2014, Firecore released an update to Seas0nPass to jailbreak ATV2’s on iOS 5.3.
The time is now. If you’re on 5.2 like I was, you’d better hurry up and get on 5.3. Apple will sure as shit be closing the gateway for this firmware. And you don’t want to get left behind. So now’s your chance! Hurry on over to FireCore and download aTVFlash 2.4!
As soon as I get mine up and running, I’ll update this post with the steps I took to get there. Right now, I’m stuck on an “Extracting Software” screen in Seas0nPass. D’oh!
