I use this all the time when I’m copying formatted text from the web or a multimedia document into a document I’m creating. It’s a quick way to get rid of off-color or bolded and resized text formatting without leaving the keyboard.
Command+C to copy the formatted text
Command+Space to bring up Spotlight
Command+V to paste formatted text to Spotlight and remove formatting!
Command+A to select all unformatted text
ALT+Tab to new document program
Command+V to paste new unformatted content into new document
You can do this on Windows, too with the following sequence:L
Ctrl+C to copy the formatted content
Windows+R to bring up the Run dialogue box
CTRL+V to paste formatted content and remove text formatting
CTRL+A to select unformatted content
CTRL+C to copy unformatted content
ALT+Tab to switch to your new document
CTRL+V to paste unformatted content into the new document
Voila! This is a great keyboard shortcut (except for the first step) that cuts back on mouse or trackpad time that you can use to keep your momentum on whatever you’re making on and not get distracted by whatever markup another author or artist put on the data you want to use. Don’t forget to cite your sources!
